Seahawks: Alexander Sideline for 5 Consecutive Games

Shaun Alexander will not be able to help the struggling Seattle Seahawks yet.

Indeed he underwent a series of tests which unexpectedly revealed that Alexander's foot remained broken. As a consequence, the 2005 NFL rushing leader will have to be on the bench for next Monday night's game against Oakland.

Coach Mike Holmgren explained that the pictures revealed that the status of Alexander's foot were not good enough to clear the player. This is a high disappointment since the team returned from its third loss in four games at Kansas City.

Even though Alexander do not feel any more pain for more than a week, the team doctors who are trying to ensure the crack is completely gone before he plays again, advise him to wait before returning on the field in order to prevent a full fracture that would require surgery.

The injury of Alexander occurred during the Sept. 24th game against the New York Giants. He cracked his fourth metatarsal in his left foot, which had been also weakened in the Sept. 10th opener. Right after the break was discovered, the Seahawks planned that he would miss at least a couple of weeks.

Last Week, Alexander started running on a treadmill without pain for the first time since his injury. He was put on the list of players as doubtful for Sunday's loss at Kansas City. But he was hoping that he could be able to return for the game against the Raiders.

Therefore Seattle, who is 1-3, will have to play without Alexander.

This season the Seahawks won only one game against St. Louis on Oct. 15th. The Seahawks have record an average 92 yards rushing this season. But last year, with Alexander healthy and running for 1,880 yards, they were ranked third in the NFL at 154 yards per game.

With this delay, Alexander is now scheduled to be back for the Nov. 12th home game against St. Louis. This game is already expected to be Seattle's biggest game this season since the Rams and Seahawks are currently tied atop the floundering NFC West at 4-3. Besides Pro Bowl quarterback Matt Hasselbeck will not be able to be back for the game because of a sprained knee ligament.
